Create a Website or Blog?

If you are unsure which type of website to make and cannot decide between a website or blog you need to know the differences between the two. A static website and a blog can look similar to a person visiting your site, in fact most people do not really know the difference so appearance wise it is not that important.

What does matter is how much time you have available for your website and how much time you are willing to put into learning the different methods to make either. A blog is much easier to set up for a beginner but there are some limitations to what you can do with it later on, whereas a static website takes some knowledge of (html and css)to set up it can be much more customiable and the options for a website built with html and css are endless. Also, you can add a blog to a static website at any time in the future if you want to do so.

Learning HTML and CSS

It is not difficult to learn html (hypertext markup language) or CSS (cascading style sheets) but it will take a little longer to get the hang of it, but you should be aware that even if you opt to make a blog you may still need to learn the basics of both to design your blog and make it unique.

My personal recommendation, if you have the time is to learn some html and css. The website tutorial on this site (How to Make a Website" takes you through the basics of html and css to start a website, the tutorial is designed for complete beginners so you do not need to have any knowledge of it before you start.

However if you are looking to get your site up and running quickly a blog may be right for you.

Difference between Websites and Blogs

This site is a static website, meaning it was created using html and css but this site also has a blog which you can find here: How to Make a Website Blog. There is not a great difference, content is arranged differently, static websites organise the content, by content categories whereas blogs tend to organise their contend by date, the newest articles (posts) are displayed first.

It is definately easier to make a blog but learning the basics of html and css is a skill that most webmasters will need at some point later on and getting that knowledge earlier on means that you can have more options to customize your site or blog at any stage in the future.
