Market Research - Finding Your Target Audience
Finished doing your traffic research? Once you have your list of keywords you are ready to do a little market research, all you want to do here is find out a little about what type of people are going to be looking for your site, what type of information are they after and what are they likely to buy that is related to your topic? You need to do this to see if you are setting up a potentially profitible website and it is quite easy to do. Follow these simple tips to find the best market for your website topic
- Google Search - now that you have your first set of keywords for your sites topic you want to look a little deeper at the type of people who will be searching online for the topic. Take each keyword and google it in Google.com. (if you topic is country specific, search the desired google engine. What you are looking for here is anything that stands out. Are there a lot of questions showing up in the first two pages of Google about your topic, note everything down that you think is relevant to your site.
- Go to ebay and log in and try several different searches for products related to your keywords, On the left hand sidebar if you scroll down you will find a filter or sorter that allows you to view only completed items for the last few days or weeks. Click this option and check out which items are selling the most, how much people are bidding for items and find the most popular products for your niche.
- Go to amazon.com and search for items related to your keywords, sort by bestselling and take note of the products that are most popular, you may also want to check out the movers and shakers as well as the most gifted items.
- Search for forums about products related to your keywords or the keywords themselves. Read around the forums if there is one and see what people are saying about your topic, note down anything that you think stands out, for instance is there a question that went unanswered that you think your site could answer?
- Check out the other sites that appear on the first page of google for your keywords, are they selling products or providing information, do they have an area where customers can make comments and so on.
- Check out social sites like facebook, are there any pages there that relate to your chosen topic? What are people talking about?
If you do all of the above you should have a good general idea of if there is a demand for
information about the topic you have chosen. You should have an idea of what related products are being bought in your niche and the type of people who are interested in the subject.
